I was planning on getting off the political page, but I happened to stumble across an interesting interview of sorts done by Democracy Now with one of my favorite, and one of the most famous Uruguayan writers, Eduardo Galeano. Galeano speaks out about what it really means to have an African-American for President.
The following quote is what caught my eye; Eduardo Galeano states:
I would like that Obama, who has now tremendous, historic opportunity, that he never forgets that he’s now going inside the White House. The White House will be his house in the time coming, but this White House was built by black slaves. And I’d like, I hope, that he never, never forgets this.

i would like to remind mssr galeano that there were some black slaves which worked on the construction of the white house however most were skilled workers and were paid. i am sure mssr obama will not forget the significance even though mssr obama was born to a “white” american woman and to an africa father who had volunarily come to study in the usa on a scholarship partly funded by the usa government.
it is however ironic that mssr obama sr has an arabic sur name and that the arabs in east africa were involved in the procurement of black african slaves.
thank you
